The Smell of Wet Soil
I made this work in 1999 for the Sculpture Trail at Hardcastle Crags, Hebden ridge, Yorks. For me this is the shape of the smells of soil after rain - bulbous, fecund, pervasive, rich, bloated. In recent years this work has been left to rust in a copse of trees and has started to crumble back into the soil - a very pleasing and fitting end
